Smooth muscle actin from gizzard contains a mixture of ~80% γ-, ~20% α- smooth muscle actin and a certain quantity of β-non-muscle actin. Smooth muscle actin is a single chain polypeptide with a molecular weight of 42kD consisting of 374 amino acids. The typical polymerization and depolymerization properties were compared with skeletal muscle actin in fluorimetrical analyses (see product images). By mixing both actins with 10% pyrene actin (rabbit skeletal muscle actin) different kinetics are observed.
