Description
Protein |
Profilin (Synonyms: Profilin 1) |
Origin |
human recombinant - untagged. |
Molecular mass |
15kDa |
Protein description |
Profilin (15kDa) regulates the G-actin pool by sequestration of actin monomers. Thus profilin controls the growth of actin filaments, and is thus an essential regulator of cellular locomotion and cell shape changes. |
Actin interaction |
Profilin binds to monomeric actin by occupying an actin-actin interaction site. As a result, profilin sequesters actin from the G-actin pool. Profilin catalyzes the exchange of actin-bound ADP to ATP. This converts less polymerizable ADP-actin into fast polymerizable ATP-actin. Since profilin has a significantly higher affinity for ATP- than for ADP-actin. Another F-actin growth control by profiling is that profilin-actin complexes are introduced into growing actin polymers by e.g. formin, WASP and VASP. |
