Applications
Reagent for maintaining SH groups in the reduced state.
Description
Product name
DTT; Synonym: threo-1,4-Dimercapto-2,3-butanediol, Cleland’s reagent, DTT
Product description
An excellently suited reagent for maintaining SH groups in the reduced state to quantitatively reduce disulfide bonds. DTT is effective in SDS sample buffers for reducing protein disulfide bonds prior to SDS-PAGE and is a vital component of various buffers for cytoskeletal proteins.
Overview
DTT is of low-odor, far more stable in solution and less toxic than 2-mercaptoethanol. Due to its strong reducing potential only a seven fold lower concentration of DTT (100 mM) is needed than for 2-mercaptoethanol (700 mM).
