Gelsolin is a powerful actin regulatory protein that acts like molecular scissors for the actin cytoskeleton. Activated by Ca²⁺, full-length Gelsolin severs F-actin, caps newly generated barbed ends and can support actin nucleation workflows. This makes it a precise reagent for experiments where filament length, barbed-end availability and actin turnover must be actively controlled.

GLN40, also termed TL40, is the N-terminal gelsolin fragment consisting of subdomains S1-S3. In contrast to full-length Gelsolin, GLN40/TL40 is used when Ca²⁺-independent actin filament severing is required, especially for F-actin fragmentation assays in EGTA-containing conditions.
